The “Monsanto Protection Act” effectively bars federal courts from being able to halt the sale or planting of controversial genetically modified organisms (aka GMO) or genetically engineered (GE) seeds, no matter what health issues may arise concerning GMOs in the future. According to the New York Times, Monsanto Director of Corporate Communications Phil Angel said, “Monsanto should not have to vouch for the safety of biotech food. Our interest is in selling as much of it as possible. Assuring its safety is the FDA’s job”.(1) The FDA – Food and Drug Administration insists,“Ultimately, it is the food producer who is responsible for assuring safety”.(2)

Researchers from Australia working with 2 veterinarians and a farmer from Iowa released a study published in the June issue of the peer-reviewed Journal of Organic Systems. Lead researcher Judy Carman is an epidemiologist and biochemist and director of the Institute of Health and Environmental Research in Adelaide, Australia. The study was conducted over 22.7 weeks using 168 newly weaned pigs in a commercial U.S. piggery.

The EPA – Environmental Protection Agency, has built a database of Developmental Neurotoxicants using Evidence from Human and Animal Studies. For this study, researchers analyzed data from mammalian studies, no in vitro studies were include. Studies using only the pure chemicals were included, no mixtures, no formulations, or tests using more then one compound were included.
